Family Law Attorney in Austin, TX

Greg Morrison – Family Law and Estate Planning Attorney

The Morrison Law Firm, located in Austin, Texas, provides a complete range of family law and estate planning services that you can rely upon with confidence. Our lead attorney, Greg Morrison, opened this firm originally in Houston, Texas, in 1996. After moving to Austin, Texas, in 2002 to join a personal injury firm here, he re-opened the Morrison Law Firm in 2007, now with over 35 years of trial experience.

Greg Morrison grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. After college, he taught high school for 3 years in Little Rock and then 1 year in Dallas, Texas, before starting law school at the University of Texas. While at the University of Texas, Greg represented the university on a national moot court that finished among the top teams in the nation and on a national mock trial team that made it all the way to the national semi-finals.

After law school, Greg worked initially in Houston, Texas, for the law firm of Cook & Wallace, doing primarily personal injury litigation. After 5 years, he opened the Morrison Law Firm in Houston, Texas, and combined his on-going work in personal injury litigation, with family law cases. In 2004, he became board-certified in Personal Injury law. When the Morrison Law Firm re-opened in Austin, Texas, in 2007, the conversion to a wholly family law firm began. Once the conversion to strictly family law was complete, Greg surrendered his board-certification because he was no longer practicing in that area of the law.

He is proud to add estate planning, now, to the services he offers. Every one of us will leave this Earth at some point. If we do not make our wishes known, in proper, legal and enforceable estate planning documents, the State of Texas will provide a plan for our loved ones. We want to help our clients design the estate plan that works best for them and their loved ones, not the default one imposed by the State.

Greg’s first job was working on his grandparents’ farms as a teenager. This included baling hay and catching chickens by hand – 8 at a time! He reasons that, if he could do that work, he can do anything. After this farm work, he worked at a Mexican food restaurant for over 6 years and then taught high school for 4 years. All of this work grew out of his love for helping his fellow man. Practicing family law and estate planning has allowed him to continue that work and passion. All of this work instilled in him an understanding of the challenges that the average person goes through in life, the value of a dollar, the importance of giving, and keeping, your word, and the importance of giving every task you do 100% of your efforts.

Greg was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1990. He has been granted admission to practice before all 4 of the federal court districts in Texas, as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. Over his years of practice, he has also been granted permission to handle litigation cases in multiple other states.

Greg is a member of the Austin Bar Association (2002 to the present), the Westlake Chamber of Commerce (2007 to the present), Business Networking International (2007 to the present) and Networking in Action (2025 to the present). Greg served as the Chairman of the Westlake Chamber Board for 2 years in 2011 and 2012 and is currently on the Board of Directors again for this chamber. Greg previously served as the Area Director Consultant for BNI for the Austin region and as Executive Director of the Permian Basin, Northwest Texas and South Central Texas regions of BNI.

Greg handles cases with the Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas as his schedule permits and loves helping with Mobile Loaves and Fishes, whose primary location is less than a mile from his office, feeding the homeless and working poor. He is a founding member of, and on the Board of Directors for, Deep in the Heart of Sharing, a Texas non-profit company created during the height of the Covid-19 crisis in 2020 to help those devastated by natural disasters and catastrophes.
